Service before the season, not during it
Pre-monsoon is the busiest window in our Guwahati service calendar for a reason. Get oil and filters changed, the battery load-tested, the coolant checked and a full load test done before the first heavy rain. Once outages begin, every engineer in the city is booked.
Protect the set from water and humidity
- Raise the foundation above local flood level — many Guwahati sites learn this the hard way once.
- Check canopy seals and gaskets for rust or gaps that let rain in.
- Keep the control panel dry; humidity corrodes terminals and causes nuisance trips.
- Drain water from the fuel-water separator weekly during monsoon.
Stock fuel — and keep it clean
Roads flood and tanker deliveries slip. Hold enough diesel for at least 48 hours of your expected running. Just as important, keep the tank full to reduce condensation, and filter or treat stored fuel so microbial growth doesn't block filters when you need the set most.
Know your priority loads
In a multi-day outage you may need to run the generator at partial load to stretch fuel. Decide in advance what must stay on — cold storage, servers, medical equipment, security — and what can wait. Label the breakers now, so it isn't a debate at midnight.
Test under real load monthly
A generator that starts and idles is not proof of anything. Run it on your actual load for 30 minutes each month; that's how you find a failing AVR or a weak battery on your schedule rather than during a storm.
